For this purpose Tricas Industrial Design has purchased a 3D printer, which makes it possible to create plastic prototypes against relatively low cost and in a very short time.

By creating a prototype during the design proces, the design can be pretested on practicability, functionallity, safety, strength and personality.

The 3D printer creates models of robust ABS plastic which can be physically loaded and tested. The model is build step by step in layers. First of all, the 3D printer extrudes an outside contour en then it fills up. When that layer is completely filled, the constuction plateau drops down after which a new outside contour is extruded on the previous one. In case there is no supporting ABS plastic underneath the new layer, socalled support material has already been extruded there to prevent the newly extruded layer from collapsing. This support material will be removed afterwards, so that just the final desired model is left.

The models can be printed in a wide variety of colours. Standard there is white, black, blue, green, yellow and "steel gray" available. But it is also possible to make custom made Pantone colours for extra costs. These models can also be very good filled and airbrushed to make the prototype even more realistic and mindblowing.
